What is the North Shore Auxiliary Board?

The North Shore Auxiliary was formed in 1992 by a handful of women concerned about child welfare issues. By recruiting friends and neighbors, committees were formed to serve the needs of children living in Lawrence Hall’s residential facilities.

    What does the NSA do?

The NSA helps the children of Lawrence Hall have normal childhood experiences. The NSA operates on the committee level. Each committee is associated with a particular residential unit. The children are remembered on holidays and their birthdays. Games, books, and athletic equipment are provided for the children to share. We arrange and financially sponsor activities and outings such as visiting a museum, attending a sports event or going to a movie.

How are the NSA activities funded?

Each Auxiliary Board member makes an annual $100 contribution to her house committee account. 100% of the donation goes directly to the children. No other fundraising is required.

    Who is eligible for membership?

Any woman who is interested in helping children in need is invited to join the Auxiliary Board.

    What is the commitment?

The members of the individual house committees meet separately when they feel it is necessary. The responsibilities of the committee are shared among the members. Each member decides how involved she wants to be. A typical commitment might be supplying and sending birthday and holiday cards, buying and wrapping birthday or holiday presents, or organizing treats for an in-house activity. Some members like a hands-on involvement, while others prefer a more behind-the-scenes approach. Both types of members are needed and welcomed.

What is the house committee format?

The business of the NSA is conducted at the house committee level. Each committee sets its own priorities and determines how its budget is to be spent. Each committee has a house committee chairperson who helps organize the group and schedule meetings. This job is typically held for two years and is expected to rotate through the committee.

    Anything else I should know?

The NSA strongly believes in the philosophy of personal growth and fellowship through service. We have fun and share in the satisfaction that our efforts are appreciated by the children and the staff.
