After months of preparation and weeks of training for our youth workers, Try-Me’s, Lawrence Hall’s culinary arts program, held it’s soft opening at the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration on April 27, 2017. For more than 25 years, Try-Me’s has trained youth in food service and workplace skills, Try-Me’s Cafe takes Lawrence Hall’s culinary arts program to the next level offering hands on experience at a full-service commercial cafe. Youth part of of Lawrence Hall’s workforce development program, Project Work, will have the opportunity to gain job experience at the cafe over the course of a few months, and then take the skills  learned at Try-Me’s Cafe to a permanent job placement.

The youth workers will remain in training mode for the remainder of University of Chicago’s semester with a Grand Opening scheduled for October 2017. Try-Me’s Cafe offers delicious coffee & espresso drinks by Metropolis Coffee Company, breakfast, lunch, and snack options.
