After months of preparation and weeks of training for our youth workers, Try-Me’s, Lawrence Hall’s culinary arts program, held its soft opening at the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration on April 27, 2017.
For more than 25 years, Try-Me’s has trained youth in food service and workplace skills. Try-Me’s Cafe takes Lawrence Hall’s culinary arts program to the next level by offering hands-on experience at a full-service commercial cafe. Youth enrolled in Lawrence Hall’s workforce development program will have the opportunity to gain job experience at the cafe over the course of a few months and take the skills learned to a permanent job placement.
The youth workers will remain in training mode for the remainder of University of Chicago’s semester with a Grand Opening scheduled for October 2017. Try-Me’s Cafe offers delicious coffee and espresso drinks by Metropolis Coffee Company, breakfast, lunch, and snack options.
